Client Project: Pair of Dressers

A previous client recently purchased a pair of dressers to use as nightstands in her master bedroom.  She new exactly what she wanted, the dressers done in a semi gloss white finish with a gold accent that would feature the unique lines of the pieces.

The original hardware was in pretty rough shape, but with some Bar Keepers Friend and a damp paper towel the results were perfect!

We chose to use Benjamin Moore's Advance line in the color Mayonnaise.  The white has a warmth to it that really works well with the gold/brass accents.  We were playing around with where to add the gold outline, and are very pleased with the result of choosing the inlay around the drawers

These dressers are going to work perfectly as nightstands with deep drawers and a durable, long lasting finish.

Thank you,
Shannon and Danielle

Antique Settee Refinish

When a friend found this antique settee sitting outside on the curb and sent a picture over I had to have it!  Once it arrived I realized that it had been rained on, well loved and a cat had definitely snuggled up on it a few times, but the shape and style were right up my alley.

Once all of the fabric, padding and wood veneer was removed and I could get a good look at this well made piece of furniture I was glad it ended up in my collection.
A lot of repairs needed to be made to the woodwork (i.e. arms held together by duct tape) and the under webbing/straps had to all be removed and replaced.  But, the biggest part of the transformation would be choosing a paint color and fabric that would really make this piece pop.

A beautiful gray patterned fabric was chosen and custom piping was added to the piece.  While a rich gold metallic finish really helped to accentuate the beautiful lines and detail.

This antique settee is a perfect example of something that was once considered trash and with a little love was able to Bloom.

Our Favorite Things: Paint Colors

The weather is starting to get warmer and Spring is here! For Bloom. Restorations, this means getting outside and getting to work on fabulous new furniture projects. For today's Favorite Things post, we'll be focusing on a few of our favorite paint colors. Let's dive right in!

1. Hale Navy by Benjamin Moore. The perfect shade of navy. We love it in dining rooms with gold and white accents.

2. Chantilly Lace by Benjamin Moore. A crisp, clean white with grey undertones. Perfect for cabinets.

3. Eros Pink by Sherwin Williams. A bright, delicious shade of pink. We think it would be fantastic on a small buffet; the perfect conversation piece.

4. Fresh Butter by Benjamin Moore. A soft, buttery yellow that packs a bit of pop. Excellent choice for a refreshed front door!

5. Pelt by Farrow and Ball. A striking purple with dark undertones. Would be perfect on an accent wall or perhaps on a vintage vanity restoration.

6. Nimbus by Benjamin Moore. This icy gray is an excellent neutral and pairs well with other colors. We'd love it on a large, vintage buffet in a high-gloss. Actually, we've done it before and you can see the finished piece right here!

7. Calypso Orange by Benjamin Moore. We are loving bold, bright colors for Spring and this tangerine-inspired color would look perfect in a high-gloss finish on a mid-century modern chair.

8. Urbane Bronze by Sherwin Williams. A very interesting mix of brown, gray and black. We love this color for cabinet interiors or perhaps on an antique curved buffet with dark, wax finish.

9. Chappell Green by Farrow and Ball. This tropical, coastal blue-hued green would look fantastic in a formal dining room that gets plenty of natural light.

10. Real Red by Sherwin Williams. A lovely, perfect red that would work nicely on a front door or a small, accent table. Instant classic!

Client Project: Dramatic Buffet in Chalk Paint

When choosing larger furniture pieces for your home, it is important to remember that paint can go a long way. Bloom. was recently approached by a client who had found the perfect statement piece for her new home. She loved the shape and size of this gorgeous, curved buffet and thought it would fit nicely into her family room. She was not however, in love with the cherry finish. She wanted a dramatic, elegant finish and after collaborating with Bloom. she decided on a deep, charcoal chalk paint and dark wax with light distressing. Let's take a look at the Befores:

The piece was thoroughly cleaned and prepped for spraying. This was Bloom's first time spraying with chalk paint and we choose to work with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint. This paint is amazing and offers a gorgeous, rich tone when paired with wax. After spraying the chalk paint with an HVLP sprayer, the piece was wet-distressed and finished with two coats of a dark wax, also by Annie Sloan. In order to accentuate the subtle, aged look of the piece, the hardware was left untouched. We think the end result is nothing short of dramatic elegance.

Client Project: Entryway Dresser and Hardware Refinish

A current client recently purchased a new home, found this classic dresser and knew it would be perfect for their new entryway.  The stained finish and distressed hardware weren't the exact look they wanted, and the space was in need of a pop of color.

The entire dresser has been sprayed in a low sheen dark shade of blue and sealed by hand with wax to a satin finish.  All of the hardware is original, each pull was refinished in a beautiful metallic gold. The gold accents, new paint color and satin finish really accent the classic silhouette of the piece.

We are so happy with the results and hope that the family loves seeing the piece each time they enter their home.
