DIY: Holiday Mantel Garland

This adorable DIY garland is super simple and quick, and makes a fun addition to the
 holiday decor!

After searching the web for a tree outline that I liked, I downloaded and printed it out.  An image that was simple and a silhouette was exactly what I was after.
I've uploaded my image, so if you like it you don't have to go looking :).

I took felt sheets that I already had from a project last year and traced the shape of the tree onto each with a Sharpie.  You could use any type pen or marker as long you can see the lines once traced.

Then I cut each shape out and also cut 2 small slits vertically on each so that the ribbon could run through, while also providing support for the felt pieces.

I then ran a piece of gold ribbon through each piece, alternating my color cut-outs.

Then it's done!  This  project probably took a total of an hour.

There are a ton of variations of this project.  You could use different shapes.  Instead of felt you could choose fabric or paper. Choosing different colors or prints would look great too!

Happy Crafting!

Client Project: Dramatic Buffet in Chalk Paint

When choosing larger furniture pieces for your home, it is important to remember that paint can go a long way. Bloom. was recently approached by a client who had found the perfect statement piece for her new home. She loved the shape and size of this gorgeous, curved buffet and thought it would fit nicely into her family room. She was not however, in love with the cherry finish. She wanted a dramatic, elegant finish and after collaborating with Bloom. she decided on a deep, charcoal chalk paint and dark wax with light distressing. Let's take a look at the Befores:

The piece was thoroughly cleaned and prepped for spraying. This was Bloom's first time spraying with chalk paint and we choose to work with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint. This paint is amazing and offers a gorgeous, rich tone when paired with wax. After spraying the chalk paint with an HVLP sprayer, the piece was wet-distressed and finished with two coats of a dark wax, also by Annie Sloan. In order to accentuate the subtle, aged look of the piece, the hardware was left untouched. We think the end result is nothing short of dramatic elegance.

Client Project : Coffee Table Refinish

A current client had an adorable, mid century modern style coffee table that she wanted painted to add a pop of color to their formal living room.  The coffee table was in great shape and we knew that a high gloss finish would be perfect for the project.
Here is the before:

After sanding, priming and making a few minor repairs, we sprayed the entire table with our HVLP paint sprayer.  We used a high gloss shade of gray that is the perfect addition to the families beautifully styled living room.

Sometimes the simplest project can be just what a room needs :).  Thanks for reading!

Client Project: Dining Table Restoration

This dining table was in very good shape when it came to Bloom. from a new client. There were minor imperfections from simple wear and tear and just a few discolorations in finish. When our client expressed the need for a clean up and inquired as to how we could bring back the table's original luster and shine, we immediately suggested hemp oil. Hemp oil is a fantastic way to restore color and sheen to wood without heavy chemicals or stains. Our client happily agreed and handed over her table for some much-needed restoration. Let's take a look at the befores:

After a thorough cleanup with mineral spirits and some light sanding, the table was rubbed with the hemp oil from top to bottom. After some curing time, the table was then given a gorgeous, buttery sheen using a "wet-sanding" technique with fine grit sandpaper and hemp oil. A semi-gloss poly was applied to the table top for added protection. We think the piece can really shine now and hope our client thinks so too! Let us know what you think in the comments below.

Love that beautiful color and shine! Thanks for reading!
