Client Project: Vintage Doll Wardrobe

Happy Holidays Happy Now Readers!  Only 8 more days until Christmas morning, are you ready? We still have some shopping and wrapping to do, but I wanted to quickly share with you this awesome project, finished just in time for a Happy client!

This vintage child's dresser was given to me by my mother-in-law in hopes that I would find something useful for it. She painted it years ago and since it has been sitting in her basement forever, the white paint had started to yellow. The interior was an industrial-like, army green and the hardware was much too masculine for such a delicate piece.

A client of mine, who is also a local resale boutique owner, expressed interest in the piece for her store.  Wanting to stay in theme as a children's furniture piece, I offered it as either a doll wardrobe or activity/play center.  Once the wheels in her head began turning, she decided she would like the piece refurbished as an American Girl doll wardrobe for her own little girl!  I was very Happy to oblige and you can see below the piece cleaned up rather nicely!

We removed the door to showcase the many gorgeous outfits that little girls can never have too many of for their dolls.  The clothing rack is very vintage in that it is a metal bar that extends out of the piece for easy access to the dresses!  I LOVE this feature and it is so hard to find in modern, factory-made furniture!

I chose a beautiful, latex-based paint in Heavy Cream and finished the entire piece with a white wax. Wax is an excellent way to seal furniture and prevents the hardened yellowing given off after time by most poly finishes. The hardware was replaced with a girly, chevron-designed brass and the interior drawers and closet area were painted in an oil-based Berry Pink spray.

We can't wait to hear how much this little girl loves seeing the wardrobe by her tree this Christmas!
